The Slow Death of Lady Liberty's Flame

I wonder what poet Emma Lazarus would write now? "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe zero cost - as lengthy as they have waited in line for years, have the correct paperwork and appear like me. If not then go residence." Thankfully only the first portion of her sonnet, "The New Colossus," appears on America's eminent symbol of freedom - The Statute of Liberty. Her words combined with Lady Liberty's towering gaze and eternal flame have served as a beacon of hope to immigrants from about the world escaping the shadows of tyranny though seeking for light in opportunity.

The founding of America was by no means best. However in spite of her imperfections, she was the brightest example of what was appropriate in man. She held the promise of a superior future for, some thing that was but a dream prior to she was founded. Newly arrived immigrants and their descendants had a exceptional chance to advance as people in society by means of the merits of their own function. Where you came from or what your cultural background mattered much less than the individual's tricky function and contribution to society. A person could become some thing here without having permission. Just tough work.
